  FH000038.jpg - Leaving the vault, here's a picture of the horizontal shaft that one enters the vault through. It's only about 4 feet high, so you have to crouch really low, almost doubled over, to walk along here.  Two shafts: one on a steep slope from the outside, then this horizontal one that leads into the vault.  The blocks of wood either side are holding up a huge stone door that slides down to the floor, blocking this shaft completely.  Engineers have hoisted that gargantuan door up into the ceiling where it was during the construction of the pyramid, and wedged these wooden blocks to hold it up there.  Maybe the wood was strong, but I didn't know how old, so I was actually really nervous creeping underneath it on the way out.
